THE MOMENT WE CHOSE TO ACT

I traveled to Madagascar and saw something I could not unsee.

Children with no shoes, no running water, no bathroom. Families bathing in rivers because there was no alternative. Homes built from straw and thatch, walls of woven grass, roofs of ravinala palm, standing as the only shelter against the elements. When the rainy season arrives, these structures absorb water, weaken, and decompose. Cyclones tear roofs off and collapse walls entirely. Families rebuild from nothing, season after season, with no safer alternative. Villages so stripped of basic dignity that the word "poverty" didn't feel adequate anymore. These were not statistics. These were people, warm, resilient, full of life, living without the foundation the rest of the world takes for granted. I came home changed.

Bags For Books was born from that moment. From the belief that those children deserve a future as full as any other child's. That their voices matter. That one person, moved enough to act, can help pave a different road for an entire community.

We are that act. Every bag donated is a declaration that these lives matter. Every dollar raised is a brick laid. Every school built is a promise kept. That we saw them, we heard them, and we showed up.

Their voices will be heard. The future is being built. And it starts here.

Impact

Every decision is measured against one question: does this build more schools, reach more children, and change more trajectories?
